He serves as chairman of the Senate Health & Human Services Committee and sits on the Senate Finance, State Affairs, Administration and Business & Commerce committees. Previously, Schwertner represented District 20 in the Texas House. In addition to his role in the Texas Legislature, Schwertner works as an orthopedic surgeon.
